ABSTRACT
Diversos autores apontam a repetência e a evasão escolar como resultados de um conjunto de causas. Ao desenvolvermos o ensino teórico-prático da disciplina Saúde da Criança nas escolas da rede oficial de ensino de Ribeirão Preto, ligadas ao Programa de Assistência de Saúde Escolar, deparamo-nos com tais problemas. Partindo daí, numa primeira abordagem, resolvemos estudar esta questão, com adolescentes de sétima série de algumas escolas da rede de ensino de Ribeirão Preto, no ano de 1995, para detectar quais as possíveis causas que contribuem para a evasão e repetência escolar em nossa cidade. A metodologia utilizada foi a estratificação social, através da qual agrupamos as escolas em carentes, mistas, padrão e particular, de acordo com a clientela que as frequentava. Após a estratificação sorteamos uma escola de cada grupo, entrevistamos os alunos repetentes e visitamos em suas residências os alunos evadidos. De acordo com os resultados encontrados em nossa amostra as causas mais apontadas pelos adolescentes para a repetência e evasão escolar são a necessidade do trabalho para auxiliar no orçamento familiar e a desmotivação pelo ensino.
According to several authors many causes may lead to repetition and school evasion. When we developed the theoric-practical teaching of our discipline named Child's Health in the schools linked to the PROASE (School Health Assistance Program), we faced such problems. From in a first approach, we decided to study this question, with adolescents from the seventh grade of those schools (official and private schools), in the year of 1995, to detect possible causes that contribute for repetition and school evasion in our city. The methodology used in this study was the social stratification, and in this way we grouped the schools as: needy, mixed, standard and private, according to the children who attended the schools. After the stratification we choose a school of each group aleatorily, and we interviewed the repeating students and visited the evaded students. According to the results, we found that the major cause of repetition and school evasion in our research was the need to work and help the family earnings, and that the students were not interested in learning.
